bragging rights

when we talk about "bragging rights", we can't help but to think of one man. an athlete that is so good in bragging he got the knack for it. a true legend. listed as number 3 in the ESPN's top North American athletes of the century. Muhammad Ali. The Greatest.

the name is so synonymous with what i'm talking about here. who else do you think deserve to have bragging rights in their life? as for me,

for basketball it's a no-brainer. that would be the one and only, Michael Jordan (number 1 in ESPN's top North American athletes of the century).
american football. Joe Montana (25). Jerry Rice (27). Walter Payton (39).
football or soccer. Pele and Diego Maradona.
malaysian football. Mokhtar Dahari.
hockey. Wayne Gretzky (number 5).
baseball. Babe Ruth (number 2).
track and field. Carl Lewis (12).
golf. Tiger Woods? Vijay Singh? Jack Nicklaus (number 9)?

whether we are aware of it or not, we're surrounded by cocky people (or should we call them bastards?) everyday in our lives. at school, at work, you name it. but there are people who used these "bragging rights" to make stupid-fuck jokes, including me. wahahahaha for some reasons, people do find it funny when we "brag" about how small our cellphone is, how fast our car is, how thick our wallet is and so on. but of course, we have to make sure the other person knows that we're only playin' around. word up.

we gotta admit, there a few people out there who honestly, truly and intentionally brag about how good they are in sports, work and shit. for instance, if you think you're that good in basketball, what are you still doin' now dawg? shouldn't you be playing for your country or NBA or somethin'? i don't think the term "bragging rights" should exist in the first place, because it doesn't matter how good you are, it's still not justified to brag to others. but i guess it would be somewhat acceptable to brag if you're the best at what you're doing. and yeah of course, there should be a fine line between confidence and cockiness.

before we brag about somethin', perhaps we should ask ourselves this very question.

do we have what it takes to brag?
